Microsoft warned of cyber attacks on transport companies in Ukraine and Poland

The Microsoft Threat Analysis Center has identified cases of cyber attacks on transport and logistics companies in Ukraine and Poland using a new ransomware virus. The company has not yet established the involvement of any hacker groups in the attacks.
“The Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC) has identified evidence of a new ransomware campaign targeting organizations in the transport and related logistics industries in Ukraine and Poland,” Microsoft said in a statement cited by Reuters.
According to Microsoft, on October 11 Ukrainian and Polish companies were attacked using the Prestige program. She encrypts the victim’s data and leaves a ransom note stating that the data can only be unlocked by purchasing a special decryption tool.
Prior to this, Microsoft had not encountered such a program. However, as the company said, earlier the same infrastructure facilities in Ukraine and Poland were attacked using FoxLoad and HermeticWiper malware.
“Deploying ransomware to entire enterprise infrastructure is not common in Ukraine, and this activity was not associated with any of the 94 currently active ransomware activity groups that Microsoft monitors,” the company said.
