“Warranty service for consoles, including those officially imported into the Russian Federation, is no longer available due to the current situation,” the message says. The company advised to contact the stores where the prefix was purchased.
Izvestia notes that the owners of gadgets also faced the problem earlier. According to one of them, the Xbox was bought officially and with a guarantee from the manufacturer until 2024, but they still refused to accept it in the Microsoft service. The user noted that when filling out the application on the site, he was told that “there are no options for affordable service.” Then, to fix the Xbox, the manufacturer offered to “shake the dust off the console” and “reboot the device.”
Anna Sarbukova, the leading legal adviser of the EBR law firm, noted that on the Microsoft website, Russia is still on the list of countries where gadgets are guaranteed. In this regard, she advised users who encountered a problem to contact Rospotrebnadzor. The department noted that such situations are fully regulated by the law on consumer protection.
M.Video-Eldorado confirmed to Izvestia that it assumes obligations to service the Xbox. According to a spokesperson for the network, console buyers can contact the store within the warranty period. Similar information was reported in the press service of Citilink. Ozon noted that either the sellers or the platform itself are responsible for the goods, depending on who the gadget was purchased from.
At the end of March, Izvestia also wrote about problems with repairing PlayStation (PS) consoles. The newspaper noted the increase in the repair time of the consoles due to the lack of spare parts.
In early March, against the backdrop of the start of a special operation in Ukraine, Microsoft and Sony suspended deliveries to Russia. Restrictions affected the supply of Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as the operation of the PS Store and Xbox Game Pass subscription in the country. In May 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Trade included the prefix in the list for parallel imports.
