Bloomberg LP, one of America’s leading financial information providers, is not interested in acquiring financial information agency Dow Jones or The Washington Post. This was announced on Twitter by Bloomberg LP spokesman Ty Trippet. Earlier about these plans of the American billionaire and media mogul Michael Bloomberg reported online edition of Axios with reference to the source.
“There were no conversations with anyone and with any of the structures about the acquisition,” said Mr. Trippet (quoted by Reuters). This tweet was retweeted by Mr Bloomberg. Dow Jones is owned by News Corp. Rupert Murdoch, The Washington Post to Jeff Bezos.
On Dec. 23, Reuters reported, citing sources, that Michael Bloomberg had expressed a desire to own the famous newspaper for years, but had not contacted Mr. Murdoch to discuss a possible purchase of Dow Jones, which publishes The Wall Street Journal. A spokesman for The Washington Post, which Bezos bought in 2013 for $250 million, said Dec. 23 that it was not for sale.
Antitrust experts agreed that a possible merger between Bloomberg and Dow Jones could attract close attention from US regulators. Reuters, part of Thomson Reuters Corp, competes with Dow Jones and Bloomberg News, a division of Bloomberg LP
