“Metinvest” of Ukrainian businessman Akhmetov filed lawsuits against Russia in the ECtHR

The Metinvest group, owned by businessmen Rinat Akhmetov and Vadim Novinsky, has filed lawsuits against Russia with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). According to the plaintiff, during the military operation, the Russian Federation caused damage to the holding’s property in Mariupol and other territories of Ukraine. The company noted that ten more Metinvest enterprises will additionally file lawsuits against Russia.
“The Metinvest Group claims that Russia is violating its rights under Art. 1 pr. 1 to the European Convention on Human Rights, causing significant damage and destruction of its assets, depriving the Group of control over its assets, … ownership of the assets, … the opportunity to use its assets for commercial purposes and earn income, ”the holding says .
Earlier, commenting on a similar lawsuit filed by Mr. Akhmetov with the ECtHR dated June 23, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov remindedthat Russia has left the jurisdiction of the court, therefore, it will not comply with the decision of the ECHR on the suit of Rinat Akhmetov.
On March 15, the Parliamentary Assembly unanimously voted to exclude Russia from the Council of Europe. At the same time, Russia itself decided to withdraw from the Council of Europe after 26 years of membership, accusing the organization of bias. President Vladimir Putin signed laws on non-execution of decisions of the ECtHR issued after March 15.
