In April 2022, it became known that Durov received UAE citizenship. A source close to Telegram noted that the businessman received UAE citizenship back in February 2021. At the same time, Durov did not file an application to deprive him of his Russian citizenship.
Today, a businessman is simultaneously a citizen of four countries – Russia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, France and the United Arab Emirates. An interlocutor close to Durov explained that the billionaire uses UAE and French passports for travel and business trips, and the Saint Kitts and Nevis document was “relevant” only in the first years after emigrating from Russia. Durov received citizenship of the island state of Saint Kitts and Nevis in 2013, France – in 2021.
