Due to the imposed anti-Russian sanctions, masonry specialists in Finland are faced with a shortage of refractory bricks from Russia, transmits State Television and Radio Company Yle.
“Russian refractory bricks were compact and completely intact, while new imported bricks very often had hairline cracks, for example. Personally, I wasn’t too confident in their quality,” said one masonry expert.
Russian refractory bricks were actively used for lining the internal parts of fireplaces, the demand for which has increased significantly. It is clarified that the Finnish brick factory Seppala Tiili, which produces brick fireplaces, has developed its own analogue of refractory brick. It is expected that the finished product will be able to appear on the market before the end of autumn.
The ban on the supply of Russian bricks was introduced as part of the fifth package of sanctions, which came into force in June last year. In addition to bricks, coal, printing ink, etc. were also banned. The European Commission then noted that the ban on coal supplies would affect about 25% of all Russian coal exports and amount to about 8 billion euros of losses for the country per year.
