Mechel increased coal production by 17% in the quarter – Kommersant

Mining company Mechel increased coal production in the third quarter by 17% compared to the previous quarter. The company produced 2.85 million tons of coal. In annual terms, the figure increased by 2%. This is reported in reporting companies.

Sales of coking coal concentrate during the quarter increased by 43%, to 1 million tons. During the quarter, both export and domestic sales increased (almost 2.5 times). In annual terms, sales of coking coal concentrate fell by 5%.

Sales of pulverized coal fuel (PCI) also fell – by 18% QoQ, to 315 thousand tons. This is also due to the postponement of the shipment of a large ship consignment to the fourth quarter. Year on year this figure increased by 24%.

Sales of anthracite remained at the level of the previous quarter, but decreased by 11% year on year, to 300 thousand tons. Export sales increased by 7% quarter-on-quarter due to increased supplies to the Asia-Pacific region. Sales of thermal coal during the quarter fell by 7%, to 508 thousand tons.

During the third quarter, the production of iron ore concentrate at the Korshunovsky GOK also fell sharply. This is due to anomalous watering in the Korshunovsky quarry. In this regard, sales of iron ore concentrate fell by 67%, to 117 thousand tons.

The company produced pig iron by 4% less than in the previous quarter – 753 thousand tons. Steel production fell by 5%, to 839 thousand tons. The decrease is due to the overhaul of blast furnace N5 at the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.
