Matvienko urged to establish the most severe control over the production of methyl alcohol

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said that Russia needs to establish “the most severe control” over the production and circulation of methyl alcohol. In her opinion, this measure will help fight low-quality vodka. The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that at the beginning of 2023 a draft law on regulating the circulation of methyl alcohol will be submitted to the State Duma.

“Unscrupulous entrepreneurs produce vodka from methyl alcohol, poison people. And we, as a state, cannot restore order here, well, this is nonsense! It is necessary to complete this story, establish the most severe control over the circulation of methyl alcohol so that it is inaccessible to scammers and swindlers who poison people, ”said Valentina Matvienko at a meeting with state secretaries of ministries and departments in the Federation Council (quote from Interfax).

Secretary of State – Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov also said that a draft law on regulating the circulation of methyl alcohol in Russia had been prepared. According to him, it will be submitted to the State Duma in early 2023. Now the document is undergoing a non-public discussion within the Ministry of Industry and Trade, he explained.

Rosalkogolregulirovaniye reported that the production of alcoholic beverages has increased in Russia. According to them, the production of vodka increased by 9%, cognac – by 18%, and wine products – by 6%, liqueur wines – by 450%.
