Mashkov became the only contender for the post of head of the Union of Theater Workers

The artistic director of the Oleg Tabakov Theater, Vladimir Mashkov, was the only candidate for the post of chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia (STD). Initially, at the extraordinary congress of the STD today, December 4, five candidates were nominated, but four of them recused themselves.
In addition to Mr. Mashkov, the director of the Vakhtangov Theater Kirill Krok, the head of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters Valery Gergiev, STD member Andrei Borisov and actor Alexander Lazarev were nominated for the post of head of the union, TASS reports. Mr. Lazarev explained the refusal by saying that he was offered to take the post of chief director. In which theater, he did not specify. The arguments of three more candidates are unknown.
A proposal to re-elect the head and secretariat of the union in October was made by the former chairman of the STD, Alexander Kalyagin. Mr. Kalyagin was elected to the post in 1996, after which he was re-elected to this position several times.
