Kinopoisk is releasing a series that continues the short meme film from YouTube. In it, a simple Russian farmer Kolya raised drones in a dovecote, distributed shovels to the androids, dissected them on a flying “loaf” and installed a black hole in the toilet. “Cybervillage” is an asymmetrical response to great traditional science fiction and, it seems, the most inventive comedy of the autumn season, the authors of which, using high technology, cook the classic Russian porridge with an ax.

2085 Behind the garages of an alternative Russia of the future, two twenty-year-old startupers – Kolya and Kostya – are preparing to conquer the world. Kolya is a left-handed inventor (he invented, for example, a “resettler” to import consciousness from one body to another; it works every other time). Kostya is an entrepreneur and popularizer. And together they are Izhevsk Dynamics, and they nailed this sign to the garage. Neither Kolya nor Kostya, however, are yet aware of what we know from the videos of the YouTube channel Birchpunk (“Birchpunk”, by analogy with cyber- and steampunk). We know that soon, when very few years have passed and the 22nd century has arrived, the dreamy Kostya will turn into the narcissistic state billionaire Baragozin, and the big-headed Kolya will retrain from an engineer to become a farmer. Fractal cucumbers, you know, won’t grow themselves. And in 2100, a solar flare will end the Internet in its usual sense, and everything will mix into a heap – virtuality and reality, memes and philosophical maxims, historical figures and pop culture heroes, space flights and commuter train rides. And Izhevsk Dynamics, with a logo in the form of a giant letter Z, will fill the Earth with its cheap, stupid, but soulful robot assistants, Mobius carrots will sprout on Mars, resorts with horizontal waterfalls will open on Neptune, and the unreliable will be gathered in the galactic central on Jupiter.

Hundreds of thousands of Birchpunk subscribers and millions of those who watched and re-watched their videos have been waiting for the release of “Cybervillage” beyond YouTube for two years – ever since director Sergei Vasiliev and visual effects producer Alexey Fomin, together with their team, released the first short film , where the Martian fist Nikolai (in the enchanting performance of Sergei Chikhachev) invited new workers to a space farm with cyber birch trees and the android milkmaid Glasha. This expectation has become especially unbearable in the last year, when videos of the expanding cyberpunk universe, which made it possible to see the painfully familiar Russian life in an innovative light, ceased to be released with the same intensity. And then happiness happened for all the inhabitants of the fictional Cyber Russia – it turns out that the video whirlwind of defiantly inventive cinema (often under the guise of advertising integrations) on the network quieted down for a reason, but before the release on Kinopoisk of the series, which is designed to tie the Birchpunk universe together.

The Cybervillage team, judging by the credits, remained the same. The director of the project is still the same Sergei Vasiliev. And in the lengthening list of producers, it’s not difficult to find Alexey Fomin, without whom it was hardly possible to cope with the peculiar CGI style of “Cybervillage,” which famously combines analog and digital effects. Of the significant changes in the same list of producers, perhaps the names of Evgeny Nikishov and Valery Fedorovich, who saw in “Cybervillage” the potential that would fan the spark of the meme in the conflagration of the new cinematic universe. Among the acting innovations, it is perhaps worth noting the voice of Sergei Burunov, who voices a character named Robogozin and joins the narrative as a meme hero. In previous releases of Birchpunk, Bedkomedian, Wasserman, Garik Kharlamov and the chairman of the executive committee of the Ussuri district Vitaly Nalivkin were introduced in a similar way.

However, it was not media heroes or bright professional producers who turned “Cybervillage” into an amazing phenomenon of our common life a couple of years before the series aired (a paradox in the spirit of Christopher Nolan). The miracle happened at the very moment when a QR code was stuck on the side of the Martian cow and tied to a shepherd drone. “Cybervillage” is the product of typical Russian left-handedness, self-made ingenuity and enterprise not controlled by any rules. Perhaps the secret of the future success of this project is that it was invented by people who grew up on Futurama, grew wiser on Rick and Morty and, as a result, were able to look at cyberpunk a little wider and from a different angle than Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve . The film literally screams: “How do you like this, Neill Blomkamp?” — turning the findings of the South African science fiction writer on the positive side. Or maybe there’s just some special gift here to push the boundaries of existence, so that literally everything fits in them: from the self-made films of the group “NOM” and their cosmic album “In the Name of Reason” (the “Cybervillage” soundtrack is a separate song) to poetry by Fyodor Swarovsky (for example, the unforgettable poem “Everyone wants to be a robot”) and “Kin-dza-dzy!” After watching a couple of episodes of “Cybervillage”, I want to, in Nekrasov’s way – the spirit of Russian classics blows freely here – to cry for the future that has not yet arrived: “It’s only a pity – to live in this wonderful time …” – and quickly fork out at least for Wi-Fi – light bulbs for a “smart” home, a washing machine with Bluetooth or a robot vacuum cleaner, and next spring, start growing cucumber seedlings.
