Mars chocolate bars will be sold in eco-friendly paper packaging. Mars Incorporated confirmed this information to Metro.

So far, the company is only exploring possible packaging options. Bars in paper packaging can be found in the American Tesca chain of stores.

The information obtained from this pilot launch will be used by Mars Incorporated in other projects, Mars executives said. “We are exploring different types of alternative packaging solutions for our confectionery products,” said packaging expert at Mars Wrigley UK, Richard Sutherland-Moore.

The company said that the most suitable solution is chosen for the chocolate bar with an adequate level of barrier properties so that the chocolate is protected from external influences. Mars is investing “hundreds of pounds” to cut its plastic use by a third. There is an icon on the packaging itself, calling for proper disposal of the packaging.
