Residents of the resurgent city saw the premiere performance based on Vampilov
These days, the Mariupol Russian Drama Theater presented the audience of the seaside town, which was under the control of the Ukrainian authorities six months ago, a performance based on the play by Alexander Vampilov “The Elder Son”. Prior to that, in September, premieres of Chekhov’s The Golden Chicken and Vaudeville were presented on stage.
The correspondent of “MK” briefly talked with the artistic director of the theater Igor Solonin, and found out why this Vampilovsky masterpiece was chosen for the show:
– “Elder son” about the family, its values, relationships between people. We feel it is relevant now.
– Igor Petrovich, are you a resident of Donbass or did you come to Mariupol from Russia to head the theater? And how did you manage to keep the old team?
– I am a Donetsk resident, I previously held the position of Deputy General Director of the Donetsk Circus. I and all our employees are residents of Donbass. The team today has 130 people out of 208.
– Ukrainian militants blew up the former building of the Mariupol Drama Theater, where rehearsals are now taking place?
– Rehearsals were held at the Palace of Pioneers, and the premiere took place there.
– What difficulties do artists have to face in a new place, in what conditions do they work?
– With the help of the economic department, we are making it fit for work, there is a problem with the purchase of funds and services, but so far we have time to solve them.
– And how do the people of Mariupol react to the revival of cultural life? How many spectators are in the hall?
– React only positively. The hall is always almost full.
