The new smartphones of the American corporation Apple iPhone 14, presented the day before, will be delivered to Russia under the parallel import program. About it told Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).
“Why not. If consumers want to buy these phones – please. There will be such an opportunity, ”the minister answered the question of whether the new iPhone will be imported into Russia.
New iPhone 14 smartphones along with their other Apple products introduced the day before. The smartphone is presented in two versions – the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus with a 6.7-inch display. Their cost will start from $799 and $899. The iPhone 14 Pro will be available in four colors. iPhone sales account for more than half of the corporation’s sales.
The parallel import procedure involves the importation of goods into the country without the consent of the manufacturer or copyright holder. Products are delivered to customers not through a distributor, but through alternative methods. Putin signed a decree legalizing the import of goods into Russia through parallel imports at the end of June.
The list of goods for parallel import, compiled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, consists of 50 categories. In particular, it included products of electronics manufacturers (Apple, Samsung, Asus, Intel, Sony, etc.), cars (Jaguar, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley), rare earth metals, sports equipment and other goods. In August, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also included perfumery and cosmetic products from the brands Lancome, Redken, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, and others. By mid-August, the volume of goods imported into Russia by parallel imports reached about $6.5 billion, told “Interfax” Manturov.
In early September, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, announced that the program will be extended for 2023, Artem Sokolov, President of the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT), noted that retail will face a shortage of goods in certain categories if the use of this mechanism is not extended. He also clarified that such a mechanism also protects buyers from fakes, since companies import original products into the country, which pass all checks and customs procedures.
