Mamut denied information about plans to open opposition media after moving to Europe

Russian businessman Alexander Mamut commented on reports from sources of Meduza (recognized as a foreign agent and undesirable organization) about his plans to launch a media promoting a liberal agenda while abroad. He called this information “a pure lie.”

“As before, when Meduza wrote about me, this news is a provocative, pure lie, pursuing the only goal – to take revenge on me for the early termination of the employment contract with G. Timchenko (Galina Timchenko, CEO of Meduza.—”b”) in 2014 with the payment of remuneration to her only for a year in advance, ”said “Lente.ru” Mr Mamut. The businessman assured that after the sale of the Rambler holding in 2020, he “did not intend” to launch a new media outlet.

At the same time, he did not comment on the information about his departure from Russia. An unnamed acquaintance of Alexander Mamut said that after the start of the special operation, the businessman moved to Europe, now he “lives in two countries” – in the UK and France. The interlocutor of the publication added that Mr. Mamut “really does not want to fall under the sanctions”, in connection with which he is considering opening an opposition media outlet.

In 2012, Alexander Mamut became the owner of the Rambler & Co group, which unites various media, including Lenta.ru. In 2014, he fired Galina Timchenko, who at that time was the editor-in-chief of the publication. In 2020, Mr. Mamut sold a 45% stake in Rambler to Sberbank.
