The Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port (MMTP) has started transshipment of fertilizers to Iran, the company’s press service reported. The first ship with a cargo of more than 3,000 tons has already been sent from the harbor today, October 11, in the morning.
Transshipment of potassium chloride to the dry cargo ship Caspian Aryana was carried out at the terminals of the dry cargo harbor. In the near future, about 8 thousand tons of fertilizers will be shipped to Iranian consignees, the press service of the acting general director of MMTP Rustam Kerimov quotes. The port of Makhachkala intends to expand mutually beneficial economic contacts with entrepreneurs from Asian countries.
“At the II Caspian Economic Forum held recently in Moscow, the delegations of Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan discussed the development of the transport infrastructure of the countries of the Caspian region, as well as the problems of cooperation in the transportation of goods along international transport corridors. A representative Dagestan delegation also took part in the forum. Obviously, under the sanctions pressure that Russia is experiencing, the Makhachkala Commercial Port has become not only the main link with Asian countries. Our port has become the largest hub of the North-South transport corridor,” said Mr. Kerimov.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 130 thousand tons of cement have been delivered from Iran to Dagestan by sea. Russia shipped more than 150,000 tons of grain to the Islamic Republic. “Until the end of 2022, the port staff expects to significantly increase the volume of transshipment of export-import cargo. But today the lack of ships is a constraining factor in the growth of cargo turnover, – Rustam Kerimov noted. – To solve this problem, our own shipping company was organized. Currently, the port is working to increase its marine fleet, which will allow the company to level this bottleneck in the logistics chain.”
