LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas will switch to alternative sources of raw materials

Despite Bulgaria’s early refusal to import Russian oil, LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas has a plan for a gradual transition to alternative sources of raw materials. About it reported LUKOIL press service.
“The plan guarantees the replacement of crude oil before the expiration of the derogation granted by the EC; guarantees access to high-quality fuel at an affordable price for Bulgarian citizens, enterprises and budgetary organizations after replacing oil,” the statement said. It also talks about providing refinery workers with job and income security, as well as protection from man-made incidents.
The company added that the proposed 30-day deadline for changing the source of raw materials is “unrealistic to implement.” In addition, LUKOIL said in a statement that the company is “alarmed” by the attempt to reverse the EU decision.
In August, the Bulgarian government stopped for LUKOIL the lease of the Rosenets port terminal in Burgas. The Russian oil company’s share in Bulgaria accounted for about 9% of the country’s GDP. In 2022, the local government allowed LUKOIL to export to European countries until 2024, despite the embargo on oil and oil products from Russia.
