The place of McDonald’s that left Belarus should be taken by domestic business, President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko said at a solemn honoring of the leaders of the agro-industrial complex. Video of his performance published agency “BelTA”.
The Belarusian leader also urged citizens to eat domestic products, not rushing to “overseas”.
“It sounds relevant today in terms of the fact that some, especially among young people, and probably middle-aged, and maybe even older, began to gasp and groan: “Oh, McDonald’s is leaving.” I think: thank God, that at least he is leaving!” Lukashenka said.
According to him, the place for McDonald’s on the market should be taken up by the Belarusian business. “Where our people work, our specialists, where our goods are consumed, Belarusians should occupy,” he concluded.
Earlier in November, it became known about the transition of McDonald’s restaurants in Belarus to the Russian brand Vkusno – i dot.
McDonald’s closed its restaurants in Russia in March, and two months later the company announced its final withdrawal from the Russian market. At the same time, the company announced the sale of the network in Russia to the local licensee Alexander Govor, which was called “Tasty – and that’s it.” The company reserved the opportunity to buy back the business within 15 years, Govor said in an interview with Vedomosti. On November 6, “Tasty – and that’s it” announced buying Speaking of the Russian assets of Havi Logistics, a logistics partner of McDonald’s.
