Low-budget film “Barbigamer” decided to be released next year

A parody of the main two films of the year already has a script

The Barbiegamer advertising campaign has found new life. Hollywood director Charles Band said he would make a comedy about a Barbie doll who wants to destroy people. The cast remains a mystery for now. Critics have already called it a shameless attempt to capitalize on the success of Barbie and Oppenheimer.

Jokes about the making of the Barbiegamer movie are no longer jokes. One of the Hollywood film studios announced a low-budget comedy under the same name. The Hollywood Reporter has released a poster for the upcoming project, which uses Barbie’s iconic pink font and features a nuclear explosion and the tagline “D-Cup, A-Bomb.” It can be interpreted as “D-bowl, top-notch bomb.” As soon as the announcement hit the Internet, critics suggested that it was a “shameless attempt to capitalize on a recent cultural phenomenon.” Director and B-movie icon Charles Band did not deny the accusation and even said that “it is 100 percent true.” He also added that “it’s an opportunity to have fun with the whimsical connection of the two films and the combination of Barbie’s pink vibe and Oppenheimer’s darkness. Mix that together and we have the ability to make dark jokes.”

It is reported that official development of the film will begin soon, and the director also has plans to make merchandise related to the film, including dolls. The Full Moon Group has a premium toy division and it is alleged that Band has spent the last few months negotiating and working on the design for the new doll. The final cut isn’t quite ready yet, but there’s one aspect the director is willing to share: “Let’s just say she’s definitely going to hug a big atomic bomb.”

Charles Band is convinced that this project will be one of the most successful in his career. Let us remember that the director is known for low-budget horror films shot in the 1970s.

“This ‘silly’ movie is a way to bring a little levity into the world. It seems like everything is dark and depressing, and we need a little humor in 2024,” says Charles Band.

Barbigheimer will feature Dr. Bambi J. Barbigheimer: a brilliant scientist doll living in Dolltopia, a world of endless summer and beach parties, with her boyfriend Twink Dollman. Combining Greta Gerwig’s mega-hit and Christopher Nolan’s drama creates a new conflict – Dr. Barbieheimer, outraged by the abuse the dolls receive at the hands of children, is sent into the real world, where she sees humanity at its worst and, naturally, decides to build a giant nuclear bomb. The film’s synopsis states: “They have great looks and relationships. Oh, and now they have a bomb.”

In fact, the idea for the film came from the director’s biographer Adam Felber, with whom he co-authored the book “Confessions of a Puppeteer: A Hollywood Memoir of Ghouls (a ghoul is a werewolf in Arab myths – MK’s note) of courage and gonzo filmmaking.” As Charles Band told The Hollywood Reporter, “He called me and said, ‘We should make Barbieheimer a movie. Everyone around the world is enjoying this hysteria, so we should actually do it.’

As is the case in the low-budget film market, everything is produced quite quickly. According to Western media reports, the film already has a script and a couple of songs written by Brian Wechta, keyboardist of the musical comedy duo Ninja Sex Party. However, it is not yet known who will play in “Barbigamer”. But the cast will be announced soon, as will the director. Although the budget of just under $1 million may rule out the appearance of the original directors, as well as Margot Robbie as Barbie. But the low-budget world is excitedly waiting to see what happens next.

Charles Band himself may be in the director’s chair, but before the cameras start rolling on Barbiegamer, he has to finish his 397th film (he numbers each one at the end of the credits). All this adds up to the parody of the film’s filmmaking. But the “hysteria” surrounding the two films continues unabated, as the director claims at a recent Sitges Horror Film Festival he was forced by fans to sign posters for the film despite it having barely been announced.
