Lloyd`s of London discusses insurance of Ukrainian grain with the UN – Kommersant

The British insurance company Lloyd`s of London is negotiating with the UN on insurance of Ukrainian grain supplies in case the grain deal is resumed. This was announced by the CEO of Lloyd`s of London John Neal.
“Are we willing and able to continue to provide insurance in the event that the corridor is re-commissioned and restored, the answer to this question is yes,” said Reuters John Neal. “We are in active discussions with the UN about how this can happen and whether it needs to be structured differently,” he added.
August 21, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine Oleksandr Griban saidthat the conclusion of an agreement on insurance of ships with grain, sailing to the ports of the Black Sea and back, is close to completion. Lloyd`s of London also took part in the discussion.
The insurance scheme may be introduced as early as next month: from 5 to 30 ships can participate in it. Ukraine is going highlight $547 million for insurance of ships sailing along the corridors in the Black Sea.
July 18 Russia came out from the grain deal, citing the failure of the Russian part of the conditions. After that, Ukraine opened temporary sea corridors for merchant ships supplying grain. Yesterday, September 6, Russia and Turkey agreed to supply 1 million tons of grain as part of an alternative to the agreement.
