The left-wing parties return from Thursday August 25 to Sunday August 28. The New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) also, as an afterthought. Even at La France insoumise (LFI), herald of the electoral alliance, internal issues, put under the extinguisher for months, are resurfacing. The deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Clémentine Autain opened the debate on August 21 with words of rare sharpness: “The places of decision-making remain vague, the space for strategic debate is not identified, the division between the local and the national deserves to be redefined”, she wrote on her blog. For the one who had already voiced criticism of the “gaseous” governance around Jean-Luc Mélenchon, in 2019, “A small unified and determined group at the top of LFI will not be enough. We need to have hundreds of executives throughout the country. Seeing bigger, broader, means bringing pluralism to life”. Governance of LFI, governance of Nupes, the two are intimately linked. Mme Autain also calls for the alliance to be registered, without hegemony, at the local level but also in the Parliament of Nupes, bringing together figures from civil society, associations and politicians, but which has remained a dead letter since its first founding meeting at the end of May.
The idea of a common European list
The “rebellious” executives played a driving role in the left alliance, multiplying the proposals, at the risk of annoying partners who were sometimes much less keen on the idea of finding themselves embroiled in the orientations of LFI… At the idea of a common group in the National Assembly, launched by Jean-Luc Mélenchon then rejected, succeeded that of a common list for the European elections of 2024, launched in the middle of August by his successor in the 4e constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône, Manuel Bompard.
A cyclical movement, LFI used to operate on a five-year basis: even if it means keeping a low profile in local elections, the party has made the presidential election a flagship deadline. From now on, the “rebellious” could use the Nupes and the local and European establishments of its partners to also progress during these deadlines. “intermediaries”. Even in the Senate, the troops of Jean-Luc Mélenchon have some ambitions: “Our claims will be commensurate with our great voters, that is to say modest. We can consider joint applications. With a distribution key where everyone can find their way”believes, for example, MEP Manon Aubry. “Logic would dictate that Nupes also live in these senatorial elections.
