Danish director Lars von Trier has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This publication reports Politiken with reference to the press release of the production company Zentropa, which was published with the consent of Mr. von Trier.
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, slowly progressive disease that causes movement disorders, tremors, and increased muscle tone. It is also accompanied by the development of mental disorders, such as a decrease in mental abilities.
“Lars is in good spirits and is being treated for his symptoms, and work on the conclusion of Kingdom Exodus continues as planned,” writes Politiken.
According to a press release, the 66-year-old director will be doing limited interviews before the series premieres. Zentropa has decided to announce Lars von Trier’s illness now to prevent rumors about his health from spreading ahead of the premiere, the company said in a statement.
Kingdom: Exodus is the third season of the Danish TV series Kingdom, which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31, 2022. Lars von Trier is co-directing the film with Morten Arnfred. Mr. von Trier has also directed films such as The House That Jack Built, Melancholia, Dogville, Idiots, Nymphomaniac, Antichrist, and other films.
