Large retail chains began to decline profitability

The average profitability of the largest retail chains in terms of net profit in 2022 decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 2.4% compared to the year before. This is stated in the report of the company “Infoline-analytics”, which was reviewed by “Vedomosti”. This figure fell for the first time in four years. For example, the year before last it grew by 0.2 percentage points to 2.8%.
Of the public companies, net profit margin worsened for X5 Group (by 0.2 p.p. to 2%), Magnit (by 1.4 p.p. to 1.4%), Lenta (by 1 .8 p.p. to 0.9%) and Fix Price (by 1.6 p.p. to 7.7%). It also decreased for some non-public retailers – Svetofor (by 0.7 percentage points to 1.8%), Metro (by 2.5 percentage points to 3.9%). True, this figure has increased for a number of retail chains. For example, Vkusvill, Mercury Retail Group, Auchan and Monetka. X5 Group, Magnit and Vkusville confirmed the data from Infoline Analytics. The remaining retailers did not respond to inquiries.
