La Scala Theater responded to the appeal of the Consul General of Ukraine to cancel Mussorgsky’s opera

The musical director of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Riccardo Chailly, commented on the call to cancel Mussorgsky’s opera. According to Shayi, the abolition would mean imposing a punishment on the culture.
Andriy Kartysh, Consul General of Ukraine in Milan, called to cancel the opera Boris Godunov. This production opens a new theater season.
Chayi stressed that removing this masterpiece would mean “punishing culture.” His statement leads the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
Director Giuseppe Verdi noted that in January the theater will perform Tchaikovsky, and then hold a concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Prokofiev’s death.
“There is a lack of objectivity in relation to art. Art should not pay for the chaos that has been happening since February 24,” the director said.
The newspaper notes that some representatives of the theater consider Kartysh’s call unacceptable.
