The Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar did not confirm the information about the presence of hackers in its system for many months. Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that Russian hackers had access to the operator’s system.
“The official investigation into the cyber attack on the Kyivstar network, which occurred on December 12, 2023, is still ongoing, so various versions are being considered, but until the official completion of the investigation, none of them can be considered final,” Kyivstar representative Irina Lelichenko wrote on Facebook. (belongs to Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
She added that no evidence of leakage of subscribers’ personal data was found during the investigation. 99% of the network equipment in the Kyiv-controlled territory, according to her, is in working condition.
Head of the Cybersecurity Department of the SBU Ilya Vityuk previously statedthat Russian hackers have been in the Kyivstar system since at least May 2023. In December, a powerful cyber attack was carried out on Kyivstar, as a result of which tens of millions of Ukrainians were left without access to mobile communications and the Internet.
