Kusturica will begin filming the Russian-language film “Crime without Punishment”

Famous director Emir Kusturica announced the start of filming of his new film “Crime without Punishment” before the end of this year. In this project he plans to combine the plots of two famous novels by Fyodor Dostoevsky – “The Idiot” and “Crime and Punishment”. Kusturica himself shared this information with journalists before the match between the national teams of Russia and Serbia, which took place at the VTB Arena in Moscow.

The director said he plans to complete the script by April and begin pre-production in September, aiming to begin shooting the film before the end of the year. He noted that the filming process will last until the fall of 2025.

Kusturica emphasized his love for Russian literature, noting that since childhood he had read the works of such great writers as Dostoevsky, Pushkin, Gogol and Bunin. The director shared that his mother always encouraged him to read Russian authors, even those whose works are banned in the West.

This is not Kusturica’s first project related to Russian literature. He previously announced the filming of a modern adaptation of “Crime and Punishment”, after which he plans to film the novel “Laurel” by Evgeny Vodolazkin.

In addition, the director announced his plans to film Gogol’s works in Russian, although he has not yet decided on a specific work. Kusturica expressed respect for the film based on Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita”, calling it one of the best in the world, and shared his vision of the history of Pontius Pilate and Jesus Christ as the first world revolutionary.

Emir Kusturica is a famous Yugoslav and Serbian film director and actor, awarded numerous awards at the world’s largest festivals.
