Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow does not intend to compensate the Finnish Fortum for the loss from the write-off of Russian assets. Today, May 11, representatives of the company reportedthat Fortum will write off assets in the Russian Federation for €1.7 billion and deconsolidate the Russian segment.
“There is no talk of any compensation. There are no decisions on nationalization, you know the latest decrees: there is external management and so on,” the Kremlin representative said during a press call.
He also stressed that the Russian Federation has never used energy for political purposes, although it is under unprecedented pressure. “Russia is facing the expropriation of its assets abroad, and, of course, no one should expect Russia to leave this whole thing without a reaction,” Peskov concluded.
Decree authorizing the transfer of 98% of the shares of the Russian segment of Fortum under the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency, April 25 signed President Vladimir Putin. On May 5, the company officially notified authorities of the Russian Federation that it categorically objects to the transfer of its assets under external management. Then the company intended to “take measures to protect their rights” within the framework of international law.
