Prices for logistics services for electronics and household appliances from China and Turkey to Russia have almost doubled compared to February, about this reported newspaper “Kommersant” with reference to Russian distributors. At the same time, the cost of air travel has tripled.
It is clarified that such an increase in transportation prices is due to the fact that China has reduced plans to send trains to Russia, in connection with which demand and prices have increased, said the logistics manager of diHouse (part of the group “Lanit”) Dmitry Denisenko. He added that for the first time, the cost of shipping containers from China rose sharply in the fall of 2020 against the backdrop of the pandemic, then the cost per container was at $10,000-12,000, and they dropped to $6,000-8,000 only in March of this year due to for changes in exchange rates.
In company Merlion noted that now it costs about $11,500 to deliver a container by sea to Russia, while by 2020 it will cost about $3,000-4,000. As for air travel, the cost has tripled since the end of March due to a small number of direct flights from China, diHouse said. A similar situation is developing with supplies from Turkey.
“Due to the termination of activities in the Russian Federation of a number of logistics companies, the number of providers of such [логистических] services have been greatly reduced. Those who remain are raising prices, we can say that a kind of quasi-monopoly has formed, ”said Gleb Mishin, head of the Russian representative office of the Candy-Hoover Group (part of the Chinese Haier group) household appliances manufacturer. In particular, delivery to the Russian Black Sea ports was stopped by most foreign shipping lines, with the exception of Turkish logistics companies, added Dmitry Sukhoversha, head of multimodal transportation at FM Logistic in Russia.
At the same time, retailers do not yet observe an increase in purchase prices, but they do not exclude that, as a result, an increase in the cost of supplies may affect the final price of goods. “Sellers will make a choice in favor of the availability of goods, and not its price. But it is difficult to give an accurate forecast of how much the price of equipment will rise, it is affected by logistics, seasonality of demand, shortages and many other factors, ”the newspaper’s sources in the electronics market believe.
