“Kommersant” learned about the plans of “Yandex” to transfer the development of drones to Israel

According to the interlocutor of the newspaper, the new structure may be called roovvy.ai, avride.ai or avnear.ai. The source added that the team responsible for the development of drones has already begun transferring its processes from domestic platforms to foreign services.
In particular, the specialists plan to transfer the system code of the project from the internal Yandex repository to GitHub. As confirmation, the publication found a closed corporate account on GitHub called roovvy.ai.
Another interlocutor said that the idea to transfer the work of their services related to unmanned vehicles from internal infrastructure to foreign cloud platforms was discussed at a meeting in mid-July. The meeting participant added that Yandex intends to implement the plans by mid-September.
Yandex refused to answer questions about the avride.ai and avnear.ai domains, but emphasized that the source code and technology for unmanned vehicles remain in Russia.
“In some foreign markets, we do use external cloud services, as in a number of countries the legislation requires storing local data on their territory. Now we are looking at new geography, for example Serbia,” the company assured.
The interlocutor of the newspaper in one of the relevant ministries said that after the start of the special operation in Ukraine and the introduction of large-scale sanctions against Russia, domestic developers of unmanned vehicles began to experience difficulties with the purchase of equipment. Smart Engines CEO Vladimir Arlazarov clarified that the problems arose due to logistics.
At the end of July, The Bell reported about the possible division of Yandex assets with the co-founder of the company Arkady Volozh, who has been living in Israel for several years. In particular, they discussed the development of projects abroad for the development of drones, “clouds” and educational services “Yandex.Practice”. It was noted that the services will continue to operate in Russia, but the company will share some of the rights for their development abroad.
