Komatsu plant in Yaroslavl will cut 300 employees

The Japanese manufacturer of construction and mining equipment Komatsu will suspend production and cut 300 workers at its plant in Yaroslavl. About it informs government of the Yaroslavl region.

“The enterprise fulfills all its obligations to the region. The sanctions restrictions affect its work, but the company does not curtail its activities in Yaroslavl,” explained Hosoya Kazushi, General Director of Komatsu Manufacturing Rus LLC.

In connection with the suspension of work, the company will reduce the staff by 300 people. Komatsu emphasized that the dismissed employees will receive all payments provided for by law.

First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Yaroslavl Region Maxim Avdeev noted that laid-off workers will be employed at other industrial enterprises in the region. He added that the Komatsu plant will continue to work, the authorities of the region will look for “new opportunities to load production capacity.”

In March 2022, against the backdrop of the start of a Russian special operation in Ukraine, Komatsu suspended deliveries of its products to Russia due to disruptions in the supply chain and an uncertain financial and economic situation. In April of the same year, the company announced on the suspension of production at the Russian plant and promised to send 1 million euros as assistance to Ukraine.

At the same time, in December the company emphasizedthat Komatsu is not considering leaving Russia. Reuters then wrote that, despite the suspension of production in the country, the manufacturer continues to provide maintenance services for equipment.
