Kiriyenko promised changes in the legislation on intellectual property

Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, believes that the legislation on intellectual property in the face of Western sanctions will have to be changed in any case. According to him, amendments to the legislation can be made in a couple of months.

“Inevitably, due to the exit from the market of a large number of Western intellectual rights holders, the rules will still have to be changed, we have no options. But how to change so as not to upset the balance within the creative community – let’s make suggestions, ”said Mr. Kiriyenko at a meeting with the finalists and organizers of the Artmasters digital art championship.

One of the participants of the championship pointed out the complexity and high cost of registering intellectual property rights from the field of creative industries in Russia. According to him, in Western countries, a similar process is cheaper and less labor-intensive. Mr. Kiriyenko responded to this by proposing that representatives of the professional community make specific initiatives on this issue, since previous attempts to simplify these norms were met with disagreement by the representatives of the industry themselves.

“If you say: “we understand how to do this so that it is fast and cheap, for this it is necessary to make such and such amendments to such and such a law,” I guarantee you that if the entire community agrees with this and it does not violate tax rules and property accounting rules, we are able to amend the law in a couple of months,” said the first deputy head of the presidential administration.
