“Killer”: will the series have a 2nd season

On July 27, the release of the first season of the Killer series, which became one of the main summer movie hits in Russia, ended on Russian streaming services. We will tell you about why the audience fell in love with the project, what it is and whether it will continue.

What is the series “Killer” about?

Killer is a Russian crime thriller about a former police officer who decides to become a hired killer for revenge. The premiere of the show took place in early July 2022, and the final episode of the season was released only on July 27, that is, the series can still be considered completely new and fresh.

The story is dedicated to the policeman Ivan. One day, when Ivan honestly worked his shift, his partner was killed by an unknown criminal. The killer managed not only to escape, but also to expose everything in such a way that Ivan was accused of the death of his partner, and he went to prison on a false charge. After many years, the hero is released and finds out that his enemy committed several more crimes and still went unpunished. He decides to take justice into his own hands and become a killer. According to his plan, this work will help to reach the people in power and pin down the real killer once and for all. Unfortunately, he does not even realize that these same powerful people will involve him in a dangerous game from which it will be impossible to get out without getting his hands dirty.

The creators themselves describe their project as a dramatic mixture of action and road movies.

Actors of the series “Killer”

Of course, Alexander Ustyugov, the leading actor, became the main star of the new crime series. Ustyugov is not new to work on such projects. On the contrary, for many years, such plots have been the cornerstone of his filmography. Viewers could see him in such series as Cop Wars and My Surname is Shilov. About his experience of playing “Killer” he says:

“The series will show several periods of the life of my hero, and dramaturgically we went through a huge amount of different eras. There are also memories in the picture that bring him back 10 years ago, so there should be different translations of the character, his states from me, and this is a very interesting acting task. I specifically lost weight for this project, dropped 10 kilograms.

In secondary roles in the series, you can see Karina Andolenko, the star of the film “Rowan Waltz”, Dmitry Ulyanov, who previously played in the series “Chernobyl” and the novelty of streaming services “Offline”, and Anna Kotova-Deryabina, who could be remembered by the audience for her role in the film Boris Khlebnikov “Arrhythmia”.

The authors of the idea were director Denis Karyshev and screenwriter Alexander Turbin, who previously worked in tandem on the fourth and sixth seasons of Kamenskaya, four films of the Wild franchise with Igor Lifanov and the action movie Ricochet with the same Alexander Ustyugov.

Viewer reviews for the first season

The audience received the first premiere season of the new series quite well.

First of all, everyone noted the magnificent game of Alexander Ustyugov, who managed to combine the brutality necessary for the genre with intriguing tragedy in the character. Despite the fact that such series are not new for Ustyugov, as already mentioned, he still played his hero carefully and with tangible caution, the audience writes.

Others noted an interesting pace and manner of narration: quite unhurried and calm, making it possible to feel how broken the life of policeman Ivan is after prison. On the other hand, the same commentators also noted that the series is very competently increasing the intensity from episode to episode in order to bring the viewer to a sharp finale.

Finally, the supporting actors also received their share of praise from commentators for their well-chosen cast and naturalistic performance.

Will Killer have a second season?

The finale of the first season was released not so long ago, but fans of the series are already wondering if the show will continue. Recently, rumors began to circulate on the Internet that, after the success of the series, the producers plan to release a second season around the summer of 2023. In their previous projects, Karyshev and Turbin really almost always released sequels or new seasons, so these rumors look quite plausible.

However, there is no official and confirmed information about this yet. Not much time has passed since the end of the series, so the producers are probably postponing the announcement until later.
