KazanExpress may open Russia’s first bond warehouses in Kazan and Moscow

Internet retailer KazanExpress, controlled by AliExpress Russia, has signed a partnership agreement with the Russian Post to create a pilot bonded warehouse in Tatarstan. The federal experiment to launch a duty-free customs regime there will begin in April 2023. Then another such facility is planned to be built in Moscow.
The warehouses themselves will be located inside the logistics centers in the areas of international mail exchange, the representative of the Russian Post specified. For example, in Kazan it will be located on the territory of Kazan International Airport, its capacity will be 1.2 million departures per day. The parties do not name the total area of bonded warehouses. But it is known that at the first stage KazanExpress is going to place from 30,000 to 40,000 goods there.
Under the terms of the experiment, the bond zone exempts online retailers from paying customs duties on imported goods, 20% VAT and excises when importing products into the warehouse. But once the buyer has purchased them, he will be required to pay these taxes and duties. Russian Post is negotiating participation in the experiment on the use of bonded warehouses with other participants in the e-commerce market, its representative explained.
KazanExpress, according to SPARK-Interfrax, is 57.8% owned by AliExpress Russia. The latter became a marketplace partner in March 2021, when it acquired a 30% stake in the Kazan company. Later, AliExpress Russia increased its stake in KazanExpress to a controlling one. The rest belongs to Sergey Eremeev, Linar Khusnullin and Kevin Hand.
At the end of 2021, the revenue of Kazanexpress LLC amounted to 726.8 million rubles, the net loss was 807.8 million rubles. “Our goal is to catch up with Ozon in terms of the number of orders by 2023 and try to become the first in 2024,” Linar Khusnullin said a year ago.
