Kazakhstani VTB started issuing Mir plastic cards

VTB’s subsidiary in Kazakhstan started issuing plastic cards of the Russian payment system “Mir”. Customers will be able to receive transfers from Mir cards of any foreign bank, make online purchases in Russian services, and also make payments in the VTB KZ Online mobile application. In December 2022, the credit institution introduced Mir digital cards.

The credit institution services both its own Mir cards and foreign ones. Thus, customers will be able to withdraw money without restrictions on the number of transactions.

Commission for withdrawals:

  • at ATMs and cash desks of VTB – 1% of the withdrawal amount,
  • in banks outside of Kazakhstan – 1.5%.
  • The minimum commission is 500 tenge (86.1 rubles).

The cost of issuing a physical card will be 2 thousand tenge (344.4 rubles), a digital one will be free. You can top up the card through self-service devices and bank cash desks, QIWI and Yurta terminals, as well as from a current account in VTB KZ Online, by transfer from another Mir card or a third-party bank account using details.

In September 2022, the US announced a possible imposition of sanctions for supporting the Mir system abroad. Later, the National Bank of Kazakhstan stated that the country’s financial institutions have the right to independently establish business relations with payment system operators. In December, Kazakh credit organizations received permission from the US Office for Foreign Assets Control to service transactions with Mir payment cards used by individuals.
