Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said that the country is discussing the possibility of gas transit from Russia to Uzbekistan. He did not name the volumes of expected supplies, specifying that “all this is a subject of negotiations.”
“Currently, the possibility of transiting Russian gas to Uzbekistan is being discussed, negotiations are underway, in a fairly constructive manner,” said Mr. Satkaliyev (quoted from InBusiness).
In November 2022 Russia spoke about plans to create a “tripartite gas union” with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In January 2023, the authorities of Kazakhstan saidthat did not receive proposals for a gas union, but are negotiating with the Russian Federation on cooperation in the gas sector. In April, Mr. Satkaliyev announced that a reduction in the price of fuel for Kazakhstan was being discussed.
