“My ideas always came from somewhere,” says Karen Shakhnazarov, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Director General of the Mosfilm Film Concern. To be honest, I don’t even know where. But I am constantly in search of a topic and something that can ignite me. What I want to shoot has always been an important moment in my life. Of course, finding an idea is quite difficult. If we talk about young filmmakers, then an important role is played by the inner core, which, it seems to me, comes from nature. Experience is important, but what kind of experience can we talk about at the beginning of the path? In my opinion, observation plays the last role. Young people today are constantly watching something, and because of this, your own imagination fades. You become a slave to clichés, creativity is disrupted. You have to try to be sincere in what you do. It sounds easy, but it’s really hard to be sincere.”
