Juul Labs Settles Over 5,000 US Lawsuits

Electronic Cigarette Manufacturer Juul Labs informed settlement of more than 5,000 lawsuits filed against the company by more than 10,000 plaintiffs and pending in court for the Northern District of California. As noted in its press release by Juul Labs, among the settled there are claims from both individual citizens and collective, as well as from government agencies and groups of representatives of the indigenous peoples of America. The manufacturer “does not disclose the settlement amount at this stage.”
This year has been a very difficult one for Juul Labs. In June, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) following a two-year review banned sales in the United States of the company’s products. True, after the appeal, the regulator suspended the ban and agreed to conduct an additional check.
In September Juul Labs was fined $438.5 million to settle claims from 34 US states that accused the company of advertising electronic cigarettes to teenagers. Now the American company is trying to attract additional investments in order to keep the business going, plans to cut about 400 employees and reduce the operating budget by 30-40%.
