The trading company “MFC Jamilko” applied for the registration of the Motherbear brand after the decision to acquire the Mothercare chain of stores, follows from SPARK-Interfax data. It is specified that the application was submitted on December 1.
Previously, November 16, Jamilco filed petition to the Federal Antimonopoly Service for the acquisition of Monex Trading. This is a structure of the Kuwaiti Alshaya Group, which owns the master franchise of the British brand of children’s goods Mothercare in Russia and in the summer accepted decision to sell it. In September, it became known that Jamilko could claim to acquire a women’s clothing store.
The company is a distributor of New Balance, Kiko, DKNY, Timberland, Salvatore Ferragamo, Wolford, Juicy Couture, Wrangler, Lee, Escada brands. The company operates more than 150 stores in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Sochi and Rostov-on-Don. Jamilko’s revenue for 2021 amounted to 11.2 billion rubles, net profit – 1.2 billion rubles.
The name change to Motherbear may indicate the company’s desire to keep in touch with the previous name, says Nadezhda Tsvetkova, head of retail space leasing at the CORE.XP retail department. In her opinion, there should not be any difficulties with the registration of a new name. “Very often, companies apply for registration of several names at once, so as not to waste time in case problems arise. But in this case, I see no obstacles to registering such a brand, since the word mother is commonly used and it is unlikely that Mothercare can claim its strong protection, ”Tsvetkova said.
