Deliveries of “gray” smartphones to Russia have almost completely stopped, and the price of phones imported into the country without paying taxes and duties has increased significantly. Reportedly “News”the mass import of “gray” smartphones to Russia has lost its relevance due to the establishment of parallel imports.
Importing gadgets using “gray” schemes is actually smuggling: with this method of importing goods into the country, customs duties and VAT are not paid. Parallel import is the legal supply of goods without the consent of the right holders.
The publication cites data from the Mobile Research Group, according to which in 2021 about 5% of smartphones (about 1.6 million units) arrived in Russia under “gray” schemes. In 2022, against the backdrop of the cessation of official deliveries of gadgets and the fact that it took several months to launch parallel imports, up to 30% of smartphones (about 7.8 million units) were illegally imported.
Interlocutors of Izvestia add that smartphones imported without observing customs procedures and not serviced under warranty have risen in price by 3-4 thousand rubles over the past two weeks.
Previously, Vedomosti, citing data from GS Group reportedthat the total volume of parallel imports of Apple smartphones to Russia in 2022 was three times lower than official imports in 2021. In September 2022, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov declaredthat the new iPhone 14 will be delivered to Russia under parallel import schemes.
