Born in Moscow on October 23, 1980. The youngest son of the special representative of the president and a permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Ivanov. Graduated from MGIMO with a degree in Economics (2001), Finance and Credit (2002). In 2002–2005, he held various positions at the State Investment Company and Gazprom. In 2005, he took the position of Vice President of Gazprombank, later became First Vice President, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board. In April 2011, he headed the board of the Sogaz insurance company, and in June he joined the board of directors of Gazprombank. In April 2016, he was appointed Senior Vice President and Head of the Wealth Management Block at Sberbank.

On March 13, 2017, he headed ALROSA; in March 2022, the contract was extended for another five years. On February 24, 2022, immediately after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, Sergei Ivanov was included in the SDN list of the US Treasury, and then in the sanctions lists of Great Britain, Australia and Canada. On May 15, 2023, ALROSA announced that Sergey Ivanov will leave the post of head of the company, but will remain on its supervisory board.
