Ivan-tea producers announced plans to buy out Lipton’s assets in Russia

Several Russian Ivan-tea producers are considering buying Ekaterra’s division that produces and distributes Lipton brand tea in Russia. About this “RIA Novosti” informed Alexander Khlynov, chairman of the Ivan Tea Producers Union.
“Some time ago, the purchase offer was sent to the Russian office of the company, which transferred it to the parent company, which now allowed the possibility of further negotiations,” Khlynov said.
He noted that both manufacturers and investors are interested in buying Lipton’s Russian assets. The chairman of the council specified that the format of their participation is still being discussed.
According to Khlynov, the purchase of the Russian division of the company will allow retaining the professional team and distribution of Lipton, which occupied 7% of the Russian market, as well as packaging facilities. He added that the issue of sales for Russian producers of Ivan-tea will also be resolved.
International company Ekaterra informed about leaving the Russian market on August 1. The company explained that “the current situation does not allow stable business development.” Ekaterra produces Lipton, Brooke Bond and Saito teas. It is expected that the production of brands in Russia will stop by the end of 2022, after which the sale and distribution in the Russian market will be completely stopped.
