Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo will close a branch in Moscow. About it informs Reuters, citing a representative of a credit institution.
The interlocutor of the agency assured that the decision will not affect the work of Intesa Sanpaolo in Russia, at the same time, the bank will continue to reduce operations in the country.
Reuters, citing data from the newspaper Il Messaggero, writes that the bank branch will be closed for several months. The exact dates are not called.
According to data on the website of the credit institution, there are three offices of Intesa Bank in Moscow. The representative of the bank did not specify in a conversation with Reuters which of them they plan to close. By data Central Bank, in total, Intesa Sanpaolo has six branches and 21 additional offices in Russia.
According to Reuters, Intesa cannot completely curtail business in Russia due to the need to obtain the approval of the President of the Russian Federation for the sale of assets. In October 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a list of 45 banks, including Intesa Bank, in respect of which transactions with their shares or shares in the authorized capital are prohibited.
At the end of last year, Intesa Sanpaolo considered selling the Russian subsidiary. Frank Media, citing sources, wrote that structures of Gazprombank were interested in the purchase. In early November, Interfax reported that 100% of the Russian division for a “symbolic” amount could be bought by its top managers, headed by the chairman of the board of directors of Intesa, Antonio Fallico.
