Iraq wants to stop importing gas by increasing production

The Iraqi government is preparing to sell licenses for the development of 10–12 promising oil and gas fields. This was stated by the country’s Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani on October 11 at the forum “Russian Energy Week“(REN-2023) in Moscow.
He explained that Iraq plans to stop importing gas, and the sale of new fields will increase production within the country. Al-Sudani also thanked Iran for continuing to supply gas and electricity to Iraq, despite serious debts for the resources already supplied – 11 billion euros. Against the backdrop of a shortage of energy resources, Iraq, according to him, began to more actively develop projects for the production of associated petroleum gas.
