Demand for iPhone repairs has increased in Russia. In August, smartphone owners searched for craftsmen a third more often than in the same month last year. Such data from the Avito Services platform is provided by Vedomosti. The number of requests in both Moscow and St. Petersburg increased by more than 60% over the year. The trend was also confirmed in YouDo.

This is also observed in other segments, for example, owners began to repair old laptops more often. Most often this is due to rising prices for new gadgets, noted Ilya Sitnikov, head of the RemBot digital equipment repair service:

“They really started calling more often. In fact, the trend is easy to see by the prices in the store. As soon as the cost of new equipment begins to rise, people begin to repair the old one. When prices dropped last year, including due to a fairly low exchange rate, demand fell. Now it is growing again. Plus, the season has begun – people return from vacation, go to their offices, and everything breaks down there too.

We do not experience any difficulties with the supply of spare parts or components for repairs. We either have everything you need, or we promptly deliver it and order it. There are no unique items in Russia, but you can always order them. For example, the battery for an Apple watch of the very first model. It’s clear that these watches are many years old, and our buyers simply don’t bring them to Russia.”

According to the YouDo platform, the most popular requests include replacing the display or charging board, repairing the case, and diagnosing the smartphone. The average cost of repairs increased by 16%. At the same time, judging by the websites of capital workshops, the cost of replacing the screen on an iPhone starts from 4 thousand rubles. and reaches 12 thousand rubles. Now owners have no particular motivation to update their iPhones, noted IT expert Alexander Baulin:

“The manufacturer is trying – adding new functions to the iPhone, but in Russia even the usual ones that worked well, for example, Apple Pay, are being disabled.

Therefore, phone owners have a question about whether it is worth upgrading the equipment if they do not get full functionality.

It seems important to me that after the cessation of official Apple supplies, users had difficulties with the warranty.

Even if the seller takes it upon himself, he must look for an original spare part for an iPhone that could have been sold somewhere in Hong Kong, that is, he must select parts for the modification of the smartphone that was sold somewhere in another country. Receiving this spare part takes time, so it may be advantageous for the user to carry out minor repairs in one or another service center, rather than under an official warranty.”

The desire to repair old gadgets instead of buying new ones may also restrain the demand for iPhone 15, according to Kommersant FM’s interlocutors. In addition to unavailable features, some users are worried about migrating apps that are no longer available in the App Store. Nevertheless, the primary factor when making a decision will still be price, analysts are convinced.
