Global investment in the extraction of metals necessary for the development of renewable energy in the world grew in 2022 by more than 30% to $41.3 billion, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) Critical Minerals Market Review 2023. In 2021 .global investment increased by 21% to $31.6 billion.
The bulk of investment growth, according to the agency, came from lithium mining projects, which rose 52% to $4.1 billion. Capital expenditures for nickel, copper and cobalt projects rose 41% to $14.2 billion.
