Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) is preparing to launch a text application that will compete with Twitter, sources said Bloomberg. Now the new platform is being tested by developers and famous people. The app is expected to go live in June.
Marketing teacher Leah Haberman also reported about testing. According to her, the service will not be part of Instagram. However, users will be able to link the accounts of the two platforms. Instagram did not respond to a request for comment.
Mumbai-based news site Moneycontrol.com reported in March that Meta was exploring plans for a text-based app. According to the publication, its code name is P92. Other sources said the project was codenamed “Barcelona”.
As Bloomberg notes, Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter in 2022 and a change in the platform’s policy led to the fact that many refused to use the social network. This forces users to look for alternatives in the market.
