According to Financial Times (FT), the Indonesian authorities want the results of the British anti-corruption investigation against Bombardier to send part of the punitive damages that may be imposed on Bombardier to Indonesia.
The British Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is investigating Canada’s Bombardier, accusing it of bribing officials in a number of countries, including Indonesia. British investigators suspect that Bombardier received contracts from the Indonesian state airline Garuda in 2020 in exchange for bribes and kickbacks. As the investigation progressed, the SFO turned to Indonesian authorities for help, who now want their share of a possible Bombardier fine.
“The UK did not suffer financial losses in this case, but Indonesia did,” Kahyo Mujar, director of administrative affairs at the Indonesian Ministry of Justice, told the FT. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that in 2020 the Indonesian authorities did not receive their share from the European company Airbus of the €3.6 billion fine she was fined for corruption in a number of countries, including Indonesia, the law enforcement agencies of France, the UK and the US. According to Mr. Mouzard, the authorities of his country assisted in the investigation of facts of corruption, therefore they are entitled to their share of payments.
