Sheltered since 2019 in the former Les Tourelles retirement home in Toulouse, around a hundred young people, most of them from West Africa, are now camping on the lawn of the tram terminus, behind the tribunal de grande instance. . In a joint press release, the metropolis and the prefecture ensure that“close partnership work between the services of the prefecture, the departmental council and Toulouse Métropole had been carried out upstream [de l’expulsion] in order to concretely organize the care and accommodation of these people, according to the administrative and personal situation of each one”. Overwhelmed structure
The county council, which did not comment on the expulsion, has been dealing with an influx of these young people for the past ten years. In Haute-Garonne, the structure responsible for monitoring these files, the departmental system for the reception, evaluation and orientation of unaccompanied minors, is overwhelmed. As early as 2015, the community had decided to“stop automatic placements in hotels which are in no way structures adapted to the care of these people”.
With the lack of places in hostels, many find themselves on the street. This is the case of Traoré, 16, from Guinea-Conakry. His file pending, however, he is enrolled in a private high school for the start of the school year and will follow a CAP plumbing there.
