In “Tasty – and that’s it” said they are looking for opportunities to open in Abkhazia

The Vkusno-i Tochka restaurant chain is exploring opportunities to open restaurants in Abkhazia, but legal conflicts and logistical problems make this process difficult. This statement was made by the general director of the network Oleg Paroev during a press conference.

“We have an obligation not to compete in the markets where McDonald’s is represented. McDonald’s is present in Georgia. Russia recognizes Abkhazia as an independent country, but the US, where the company is based, does not. The United States believes that Abkhazia is part of Georgia. <...> We would like to enter the market of Abkhazia. Now we are trying to resolve this legal conflict, ”Paroev explained. He added that, according to the agreement with McDonald’s, Vkusno – and that’s the point also cannot open establishments under its own brand in Kazakhstan.

When asked if it is planned to open a chain restaurant in the Crimea, Paroev said that due to logistics, the company does not have the opportunity to work there. The same situation is developing in the new regions of the Russian Federation, he added. The general director specified that in the next two years, the management of Tasty – and that’s not going to consider the issue of entering the Crimea.

At the end of July, the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said that the authorities welcomed the opening of chain restaurants in the region. He clarified that so far the owners of Tasty – and that’s it have not approached him with such a proposal, and expressed the hope that they “will reach Crimea anyway.”

Against the backdrop of the start of a special operation in Ukraine, on March 14, McDonald’s closed its restaurants in Russia, and on May 16 announced its final withdrawal from the country. As a result, the Russian assets were sold to the local licensee Alexander Govor. The company reserved the opportunity to buy back the business within 15 years, Govor said in an interview with Vedomosti.

On June 12, the first 15 restaurants of the former McDonald’s reopened in Russia under the Vkusno-i Tochka brand. And on November 21, a chain of restaurants launched delivery in several cities of the Russian Federation, December 7 delivery earned in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Since December 1, six former McDonald’s restaurants have opened at railway stations and airports in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In addition, from November 22, the Belarusian “McDonald’s” began work under the brand “Vkusno – and that’s it.”
