Prices for red caviar have fallen this year amid rising production volumes thanks to the successful salmon poutine. For example, pink salmon caviar in the Far Eastern wholesale market by mid-November cost 25% less than last year. This was reported by the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters.

A kilogram of chum salmon caviar in the Far Eastern wholesale market by mid-November costs the same as last year – 4 thousand rubles; however, offers appeared for 3.5 thousand rubles, which is 12% less than in November last year.

In just three quarters of this year, 21,146.7 tons of red caviar were produced: almost three times more than in the same period last year. The association expects that the volume of red caviar production at the end of this year will be several times higher than last year and will reach 25 thousand tons.

This year’s salmon catch was one of the most record-breaking: the catch exceeded 608.4 thousand tons. This is 2.2 times higher than last year’s figure and almost 13% more than the same odd year in 2021. There was more only in 2018 – 678 thousand tons. The main share of the catch is pink salmon – 478.5 thousand tons, which is 3.2 times more than the year before.

Foreign economic factors also influence pricing. “The fishing industry, like the entire economy, operates in the world market, and the price waves of the world market reach us. Demand in foreign markets fuels demand in the domestic market,” he added.

According to monitoring data from Rosrybolovstvo, in the Far Eastern Federal District, pink salmon in wholesale prices fell by 46% compared to November last year, to 145 rubles. per kg, in the Central Federal District – by 38%, up to 187 rubles. However, such a trend has not yet been recorded in the retail segment.
