The drop in loading on the Russian Railways network in July 2022 compared to the same month last year was 5.5%, follows from the company’s data dated August 1. This is 1 percentage point less than in June, when loading decreased by 6.5% yoy. At the same time, for the first time since February 2022, when loading has been consistently decreasing, a weak recovery in rail freight traffic has been recorded in Russia.
In July, 102.1 million tons were loaded on the Russian Railways network against 100 million tons in June. “This is still lower than a year earlier, but the gap has narrowed,” Russian Railways said in its Telegram channel. The main reason for the decline in loading, as the monopoly explains, is the cessation of transportation in the direction of Ukraine and a decrease in export flows in the western direction.
